Oslo 26 January 2023 - Over the period 2018-2021 Xplora Mobile, a division of Xplora Technologies AS (“Xplora” or “the Company”), generated revenue growth of 467 percent, and was Thursday 25 January 2023 awarded the Innovation Award 2022 at the annual Gazelle conference held by Norway´s leading business newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN). The Gazelle conference has been held by DN since 2003, awarding the fastest growing and profitable businesses in Norway. The Innovation Award is awarded to Gazelle businesses that innovate, disrupt and offer new products and services while benefitting society, all on a profitable and growing basis.
Xplora Technologies AS has since inception in 2016 become a leading player in the rapidly growing family IoT category with its industry leading and award winning connected smartwatches for children. The company recently won the “Best of Innovation Award” at the 2022 CES conference in Las Vegas, NV. Xplora aspires to offer a safe introduction to the digital world without access to internet or social media.
As an integrated part of the company’s growth strategy Xplora seeks to capture a larger share of the value chain by offering its own connectivity services with its connected smartwatches. Xplora acquired its Nordic partner and mobile service provider Xplora Mobile AS in 2021, giving access to wide experience and knowledge around mobile connectivity, subscription models and recurring revenue streams. Xplora Mobile has been selected to receive DN´s Gazelle 2022 Special Award for Innovation following three years of high and profitable growth. “This gives strong support to the strength of our business model and the rapid category growth” says Sten Kirkbak, CEO of Xplora Technologies AS.
Kjetil Fennefoss, CEO of Xplora Mobile in the years preceding the acquisition, has long international experience from the telecom industry, and is now COO in Xplora Technologies AS. He has contributed to the group expanding its mobile service provider business to five new markets in Europe and North America in 2022. “Our team has worked hard through 2022 to replicate our Nordic service provider model to key international markets. We are now the Norwegian mobile service provider with the widest international footprint with operations soon live in 9 markets” says Kjetil Fennefoss.
“The combination of supplying connected smartwatches bundled with SIM cards and other value added services gives many competitive advantages”, says Sten Kirkbak. “Through this bundle we can improve the customer onboarding experience, increase user engagement and build a resilient and scalable business driven by profitable recurring revenue streams”.
